Cruces de Mayo in Sevilla

Seville, 22 May 2005

Cruces de Mayo at Plaza Jesus de la Redención and the procession.

At Plaza Jesus de la Redención, off calle Santiago.

Hotel Casas del Rey de Baeza in the background. In the hotels section of our website you can find the same view during the day.

Cruces de Mayo is basically a get-together of the neighborhood. The venue is decorated with crosses covered with paper flowers.

The children and teenagers take part in small processions with floats, similar to the ones of Semana Santa. These floats are called Cruces de Mayo as well. The building on the left of the Plaza is owned by the Beso de Judas brotherhood, where the procession starts.

The view of calle Santiago is of the procession coming to an end. The float is entering through the back door of the same building.

The banda de música which follows behind the float.

In the next year or two theses musicians will play for the real thing - a Semana Santa procession...

On the left the garage of Hotel Rey de Baeza.

The costaleros have already come out from under the float.

A view of the inside. The beams rest on the neck of the costaleros to support the float.

Proud, and showing off the wounds of the battlefield.
