HOSTAL RIO GRANDE

SURROUNDINGS OF THE HOSTAL RIO GRANDE

About 100 meters from the the Hostal Rio Grande we find the Puerta del Perdon, which offers a view of the Giralda and Cathedral.

About 300 meters in the other direction is the Plaza San Francisco and the Ayuntamiento, or town hall.

We backtrack to the Cathedral and find the Plaza del Cabildo, about 2 minutes from the hostal. The ornate building and plaza hosts the Sunday morning collectibles market. Stamps, coins, semi-precious stones and other collectable's are on sale.

Just behind the Plaza del Cabildo is calle Arfe and a famous churros stand: it is said to provide churros for the King's breakfast when he is staying in the Alcazar nearby.

We follow the same street, calle Dos de Mayo, towards the river. If we look back we can see a wonderful view of the Cathedral.

At the end of calle Dos de Mayo we cross the main avenue and arrive at the river walk along the Rio Guadalquivir. Here we see a statue with the Torre del Oro in the background.

Following the river walk we find the Plaza de Toros, or bullring. We are now only a 5 minute walk from the hostal.

On our way back to the hostal we take calle Harinas and find El Rincon del Pulpo Gallego, famous for food from the region of Galicia, including octopus ("pulpo") and cider typical of the nearby Asturias region.
