MERCEDARIAS

SOME SHOPS, BARS AND RESTAURANTS AROUND PLAZA DE LAS MERCEDARIAS

Bar "Las Antiguas Piletas" at the edge of Vidrio and San Esteban streets. Recommended for its tapas.

Just opposite: bar "La Ojiva". You can see owner Javier in the window.

Across the street: "Bodega Extremeña" specializing in food from Extremadura, which means pork and cheese... Try a tostada de jamón for breakfast and tapa de solomillo for lunch or dinner. You can see the San Esteban church in the background.

Interior of San Esteban church: gothic arcs and mudejar ceiling.

On San Esteban street towards Puerta de Carmona: a very tiny shop selling drinks, crisps and other foods. Also, a shop specialized in Semana Santa accessories.

On the edge of San Esteban with calle Tintes: bar "La Alcaicería". Rocío and her sister are often working behind the bar.

Finally reaching "La antigua Puerta de Carmona", a former gate of the old city walls. You can find a pharmacy here.

We turn right onto calle Menendez Pelayo, a major street, which is part of the inner city ring. Supermarket "MAS y MAS".

And just next to it "Internetia" cybercafe. They have very convenient hours. Only a 1 minute walk from the apartments.

Now we return to Plaza de las Mercedarias. You can see students in the uniform of a Catholic school.

Behind the school in calle Levíes: bar "La Carbonería" with live music and performances every night. On the photo you can see the smaller one of the two rooms. There is also a terrace. Go around midnight, after dinner.

"Cafe-bar Levíes" at the corner of calle Levíes and Santa María la Blanca. Offers anything from breakfast to late dinner.

Carlos of bar-restaurant "Casa Fernando". He is a very entertaining camarero, but you need more than basic Spanish to be able to understand him. Recommended for its lunch menu.
